Of course Negril has much to offer outside of the Sandals Negril resort. There are a number of tour packages that you can take advantage of to explore the island and the town of Negril. Appleton Estate offers a tour to witness its famous rum being made the traditional way. From there you then take a river tour of the Black River. You can also take a Black River tour up to the glorious YS Falls and through the spectacular “Bamboo Avenue”. You can go horseback riding on the beautiful white sand beach past the ruins of a 17th century sugar estate. There is also deep sea fishing, swimming with the dolphins, safari tours, golf and of course, no trip to Jamaica would be complete without shopping tours to the local villages.

Jamaica is located on the western coast of the island of Jamaica, on a
beautiful spit of land that juts out into the Caribbean. Largely
underdeveloped, a significant factor in its charm, Negril is a true resort
community. What began as a small village at the southern end of the Negril
coast is now a prime vacation spot to enjoy the secluded and pristine beauty
of Jamaica. There is a lovely lighthouse on the westernmost spot on the
island, three miles south of Negril proper. Built in 1894, it was powered by
kerosene until it was upgraded to solar energy in 1985. You can take a short
tour of the lighthouse for no charge and picnic on the grounds.
Nearby is the Royal Palm Reserve located just outside the town and near Sheffield. It is just south of the Great Morass and is Jamaica’s second largest wetlands. It was created to protect the Swamp Cabbage Palm and is home to a great number of wildlife including Ospreys and Hawks as well as the endangered Black Billed Parrot. For $10 you can take an easy guided tour of the Reserve.
